I'm Amanda, wife, special needs mama, ultra-runner, cupcake lover... and sometimes blogger. I originally started this blog when my five year old niece came to live with us while my sister was deployed. The "stuff" that goes along with hanging out with a five year old, missing her mom, for a year made for some really good writing material. I wrote some posts about our first, a little guy we named Dathan. He has a rare medical condition called Central Diabetes Insipidus, he doesn't produce the Anti-Diuretic Hormone that helps you retain water. Long story short-he's thirsty ALL the time. Then, after a few relatively uneventful years and a blog hiatus... we found out we were expecting our second baby, a little girl we named Dakota-Grace, in February 2015. She was diagnosed at our 19 week ultrasound as having the most severe form of Spina Bifida-Myelomeningocele (L3-S1), Hydrocephalus, Chiari II Malformation and a grade II intraventricular hemorrhage. We flew across the country to have Fetal Surgery to repair the open lesion on her back, she was born at 29 weeks and spent some time in the NICU. I have been trying to write about life and running ever since!
My blog title "Miles with Grace" comes from my love of running and Dakota's middle name Grace, she was an amazing and wonderful gift we certainly did not deserve!
